Jackrabbit Program

Ages 6-9 years old

The Jackrabbit program (graduates of the Bunny program or children with the enthusiasm to learn) focuses on learning the basics of cross-country skiing in a fun and positive environment while developing agility, balance, and coordination on skis. Through the use of games and challenges, the Youth will develop their Cross Country Skiing abilities. There are 4 levels of the Jackrabbit program that are based on a combination of age and ability. Jackrabbit Level 1 and 2’s (6 and 7 years old) focus will be on Classic Skiing and Hills with a small introduction to Skate Skiing. Jackrabbit Level 3 and 4’s (8 and 9 years old) focus will be on Hills, Classic, and Skate Skiing.
***Coaches NEED a parent to come along with the group to help out every week. Parents will be asked to sign up for a week or two.

The Goal of the Jackrabbit Program is to:

  • Be fun

  • Help children develop a positive self-image

  • Provide children an opportunity to make ski-friends

  • Develop ABC’s: Agility, Balance, Coordination and speed.

  • Encourage frequent cross-country skiing during the season.

  • Develop good technique habits through repeated practice

Cold Weather Cancellation is -15C. Cancellations will be announced via email and social media the night before or 8 am before programs begin.
Usually every season there are one or two session cancelled due to cold weather. These sessions will not be made up at a later date.

Seasonal Rentals Program:
To keep Cross Country Skiing affordable for families, GNSC has a fleet of rental skis, boots, and poles that are available to be rented for the whole season. And as your child grows during the season, you can replace boots/skis/poles with a size up. We are once again working on having enough gear for both the Youth Program and the School programs so that the gear can be taken home for the entire season. GNSC is unable to guarantee the availability of rental equipment for all participants. When your child’s program is scheduled to learn Skate Skiing, the GNSC has skate skis that all the Youth can use for the session at no charge.
