Ready to book? 

  • DATE  What are your prefered dates for your lesson?
  • TIME  What time would you like your lesson?
  • STYLE  Classic or skate skiing?
  • LEVEL  What level of skier are you? 
  • GEAR  Do you have your own equipment or will you rent?
  • TRAIL USE  Will you use your season pass or pay the trail fee?

Please contact us at least 2 days beforehand so we have time to make the arrangements with the instructor. 

Our certified ski school instructors are excited to share the joy of cross country skiing with you in a structured lesson with helpful technical tips and identifying ways to improve your skiing efficiency. Scroll down to meet our instructors! 

Fees, Rentals, and How to be Prepared for Your Lesson

Lesson fees for 2014-2015 season

Group (3-6) $30/1 hour pp $40/2 hours pp
Semi-Private (2) $40/1 hour pp $75/2 hours pp
Private (1) $50/1 hour pp $90/2 hours pp
Children 13 years and under receive a $20 discount for all lessons


How to get ready for your lesson:

  • MAKE ARRANGEMENTS to meet an instructor at the Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre for a suitable date and time. Call Annette to book your lesson.
  • ARRIVE EARLY so you have time to do the following before the start of the lesson...
  • PAY YOUR TRAIL FEE of $10/day unless you are a current GNSC member.
  • BE PREPARED for the weather (toque, mittens, jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.).
  • SIGN THE WAIVER your instructor will provide you with upon arrival.
  • PAY YOUR INSTRUCTOR: cash only.
  • HAVE YOUR EQUIPMENT READY to go (waxed, rented). You need skis, poles, boots.

Rental equipment is available at Dawn Mountain Rentals.

Drop In Lessons

At this point, we would like to hear from you and see if we should offer Drop In lessons. They would be at a regular time and day for skiers to join. This would be similar to how the downhill ski school operates. Please contact Annette with your input.

FREE clinic! This is offered by and at Higher Ground Sports. Also: ski fitting, live music, early season registration for youth programs and season pass.

Meet Our Instructors

Annette Boelman

... has taught cross-country skiing to children and adults for over 20 years. She has her CANSI Level 3 instructor certification and shares her enthusiasm for the sport through both classic and skating lessons. Annette also taught at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Aside from participating in numerous loppets, she loves just getting out for a leisurely ski on our wonderful trails. As she says: "It's the best way in winter to get outside and get exercise!" Joan Dolinsky

... has her NCCP Level 2 Community Coaching and a CANSI Level 1 instructor certifications. She sets our club record by having coached the Rabbits program for 25 years, starting in Parson in 1988. On powder days, Joan can be also seen telemark skiing in the backcountry.

Erwin Perzinger

... has his CANSI Level 1 and NCCP Level 2 Community Coaching instructor certifications and has taught with our club for many years. As our club's groomer, Erwin is available for pre-arranged beginner/intermediate classic skiing lessons after he finishes grooming the trails for the day.  Email: info (at) columbiavalleybnb (dot) com. Sanne van der Ros

... has her CANSI Level 1 and NCCP Level 1 Community Coaching instructor certifications. She is working in Jasper this winter so won't be around too much for lessons this winter. Sanne has taught cross-country skiing lessons since the late nineties at outdoor centres, ski resorts, high schools, and our club as a Rabbits coach, Grade 7 instructor, and teaching private lessons. Troy Hudson

... is a Level 3 NCCP coach and Level 2 Course Conductor who has been coaching for 13 years in and around Golden. He has worked as the Athlete Development Coordinator for Cross Country Canada, for the BC Team (leading them on a Norwegian race tour in 2007) and has been working as the GNSC Head Coach for over 5 years leading athletes to BC Cups and National Championships. Troy also works with the MitoCanada Nordic Racing Team and is the Western Canadian Race Service Rep for Skigo Waxes and Poles. Troy has a great passion for the sport of cross country skiing and loves sharing those experiences with new and seasoned skiers alike.
