Book your lesson by contacting Ski School Coordinator Ghislain

Ready to book? 

  • DATE  What are your prefered dates for your lesson?
  • TIME  What time would you like your lesson?
  • STYLE  Classic or skate skiing?
  • LEVEL  What level of skier are you? 
  • GEAR  Do you have your own equipment or will you rent?
  • TRAIL USE  Will you use your season pass or pay the trail fee?

Please contact us at least 24 hrs beforehand so we have time to make the arrangements with the instructor. 

Our certified ski school instructors are excited to share the joy of cross country skiing with you in a structured lesson with helpful technical tips and identifying ways to improve your skiing efficiency. Scroll down to meet our instructors! 

Fees, Rentals, and How to be Prepared for Your Lesson

Lesson fees for 2015-2016 season

  One hour lessons 1.5 hour lessons
Group (3-6) $30 per person $35 per person
Semi-Private (2) $40 per person $57.50 per person
Private (1) $50 per person $70 per person
Children 13 years and under receive a $20 discount for all lessons


How to get ready for your lesson:

  • MAKE ARRANGEMENTS to meet an instructor at the Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre for a suitable date and time. Call Ghislain to book your lesson.
  • ARRIVE EARLY so you have time to do the following before the start of the lesson...
  • PAY YOUR TRAIL FEE of $12/day unless you are a current GNSC member.
  • BE PREPARED for the weather (toque, mittens, jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.).
  • SIGN THE WAIVER your instructor will provide you with upon arrival.
  • PAY YOUR INSTRUCTOR: cash only.
  • HAVE YOUR EQUIPMENT READY to go (waxed, rented). You need skis, poles, boots.

Rental equipment is available at Dawn Mountain Rentals.

Drop-In Lessons

For Drop-In lessons, you just show up and we'll take it from there! There may be a range of ability in the group. Most or all of the learning will take place at the stadium grid which is just in front of the Chalet.

Classic Skiing Clinic - Learn to Classic (Beginners)

These are 3 session clinics, cost: $105 per person for all three sessions.

Skate Skiing Clinic - Learn to Skate (Beginners)

These are 3 session clinics, cost: $105 per person for all three sessions.

  • November 29, December 6 and 13 at 10AM
  • November 29, Devember 6 and 13 at 1PM

Waxing Clinics

FREE clinic! This is offered by and at Higher Ground Sports. Also: ski fitting, live music, early season registration for youth programs and season pass.  

  • Learn about ski design
  • Mark your wax pocket (classic, wax)
  • Hot wax your skis (make 'em fast!)
  • Discover how to maximize your kick (classic)


Meet Our Instructors

Annette Boelman

... has taught cross-country skiing to children and adults for over 20 years. She has her CANSI Level 3 instructor certification and shares her enthusiasm for the sport through both classic and skating lessons. Annette also taught at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Aside from participating in numerous loppets, she loves just getting out for a leisurely ski on our wonderful trails. As she says: "It's the best way in winter to get outside and get exercise!" Joan Dolinsky

... has her NCCP Level 2 Community Coaching and a CANSI Level 1 instructor certifications. She sets our club record by having coached the Rabbits program for 25 years, starting in Parson in 1988. On powder days, Joan can be also seen telemark skiing in the backcountry.

Erwin Perzinger

... has his CANSI Level 1 and NCCP Level 2 Community Coaching instructor certifications and has taught with our club for many years. As our club's groomer, Erwin is available for pre-arranged beginner/intermediate classic skiing lessons after he finishes grooming the trails for the day.  Email: info (at) columbiavalleybnb (dot) com. Ghislain de Laplante

... is a NCCP certified community coach and is Golden Nordic's youth program coach. He is a former high performance athlete, having represented Canada at World Junior championships in 2009 and was a member of the National Development Centre in Thunder Bay. After a few years away from the sport he was an instructor at Callaghan Valley (near Whistler) last winter and recently moved to Golden. Kellie Erwin-Rhoads

... is Kellie Erwin-Rhoads is 5ʼ2” as silver hair, an elfish smile and proud to be 58 years old with over 35 years of guiding mountain adventures. She received her Level 3 from the PSIA-I in Nordic in 1979 and served as an examiner and clinician. In 1993, Kellie became an AMGA (IFMGA Member Country) Senior Mountain Guide. Most importantly, she yearns to share her knowledge of nordic skiing. Whether you are old or young, a rank beginner or an expert, come and join me with an open mind and a young heart for an adventure on Nordic skis. I can't guarantee lofty goals and big summits, but I can guarantee you will come home with a stronger connection to the life time sport of nordic skiing.
