Golden Special Olympics Team

2010/11 marks the 3rd season for our athletes.  Weekly sessions led by volunteers and coaches teach the fundamentals of classic style skiing to children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Every year our athletes look forward to participating in the Huckleberry Loppet in Golden.

We would love to see more athletes and more volunteers involved in this healthy and fun sport.

Thanks to the Golden Nordic Club for their support!

Golden Rabbits

This 2011/12 season marks the 17th anniversary of the Golden Rabbits Program. We participate in Cross Country Canada’s Skill Development Program in which children 5 - 12 years old are taught the proper techniques used in cross country skiing by trained volunteer coaches in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.  This season we are expanding the program.  Lessons for Jackrabbits (5-8 year olds) will be on  Sunday afternoons at 2:00-3:30 pm at Dawn Mountain for all sessions.

This Rabbits season is from January 5th through March 8th, 2012. For Jackrabbits (5-8 yr olds) who can't make the Sunday sessions we will also offer lessons Thursdays after school, 4:00-5:30 pm -  The first two weeks of January at the Golf Course and  the remainder at Dawn Mountain.  For skiers in the Track Attack age group (9-12 yrs old) we will run lessons both Thursday and Sunday.   These skiers are encouraged to participate both days but can sign up for one day if they want.  A limited number of club skating skies are available for these skiers to borrow.  Skiers  older that 12 year can join our Development Team.  These skiers will  train  Thursdays and Sundays January through March and start the ski season earlier with a few session October - December.
