Golden RabbitsIn our 16th year of the Golden Rabbits Program, we participate in Cross Country Canada’s Skill Development Program in which children 5 - 12 years old are taught by trained volunteer coaches in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Lessons are from January 7th - March 4th, 2010 on Thursdays (3:45 - 5:00 pm) in January at the Golf Course and from 4 - 5:30 pm for February and March at Dawn Mountain. The program costs cover trail fees, hot chocolate, insurance, registration with Cross Country BC and honorariums for our coaches. Contact Joan Dolinsky for more info at 250.348.2578. |

Golden Nordic Ski TeamThe Golden Nordic Ski Team is a dedicated group of youth who proudly represent our community of Golden by practising diligently and attending races in British Columbia and Alberta. The current race team has been in existence for about 3½ years. The athletes train on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with their coach. On their off days the athletes do strength training on their own. Grade 7 ProgramAll grade 7 classes in the Golden area are taken out to enjoy the Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre trails for three half-day sessions. Club instructors teach the students basic cross-country skiing technique through a variety of games and activities. The students get to explore the trails and have their lunch at the club's cabin overlooking the beaver pond. All skiing equipment (skis, poles, and boots) and lessons is provided to all of Golden and Nicholson’s grade 7 students free of charge.Contact Joan Dolinsky for more information at 348-2578. |

Golden Special OlympicsDid you know that Golden is the first community in the East Kootenays to have a Special Olympics cross-country ski program? This season, four Special Olympians and their volunteer coaches are skiing on a weekly basis and are training for the Huckleberry Loppet and the Special Olympic Regional Qualifiers.They have a lot of fun every Sunday afternoon when they’re out on the trails. Family Fun Ski DaySome Rabbit coaches have planned one fun family ski day per month for January, February and March, 2010 - January 17, February 21, and March 7th. This programs aims to give young skiers an opportunity to meet other children their age, improve their skiing through a variety of fun activities. Parents are welcome to join in the activities and will receive skiing tips if interested. We expect the parents to stay near their young children (ages 4-6) for assistance. There are no fees for these sessions but trail fees do apply if you are not a member of the Golden Nordic Club. Please contact Joan Dolinsky at 250.348.2578 to register. |

Adult Training GroupThe title of this program makes it sound way more serious and official than it is. However, there are often skiers going out for an evening ski after work out at Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre or the Golf Course. Interested to join for a casual but fun ski at a decent pace?
